Reflecting back on the morning of 5th December 2015, we prepared ourselves for heavy rain, we never envisaged what we were about to witness, or indeed what we had to endure over the coming months...
Fast forward to the end of a long challenging 2016, we were set to open the doors precisely 363 days later, we decided to open even though we weren't quite ready, as we thought to ourselves, "well, will we ever be?" When your entire life is turned upside and back to front, it doesn't only affect you physically but also emotionally. We felt that we had to be courageous and let people in. Even if we were nervous, and not quite sure of what we had been through, and where we were at that moment. And yes, 2017 was just, if not more challenging than the previous years. It was like opening a brand new business, we had to be confident that our standards were as high, if not higher than they were before the flooding, and with just a handful of staff we found this a challenge and often filling the gaps wherever was needed. The New Years Eve saw my sister and I waiting tables that evening, to waiting tables at breakfast the following morning, then on to cleaning the bedrooms after a full checkout. I can quite honestly say that had to be one of the most exhausting days of our lives. No matter what the challenges were; we not only faced them, we made sure we destroyed them.
To this day; three years on, and things are starting to settle.
In January 2018, after 35 years operating under the Best Western umbrella, we sadly but excitedly parted from the brand. We did not take the decision to part lightly but felt it was time to stand with our own entity and show our guests that we are just a small family run hotel. Our rebrand started soon after our departure using the beautiful cherry blossom tree for the logo as it's located on the rear of the hotel. We felt that it was most fitting, as it symbolised the end of the hotel as we knew it, but the rebirth of something new and beautiful.
We look back and are proud of what we have achieved, we are continuing with our refurbishment plan in the bedrooms. This year we refurbished our lake view rooms; the rooms now have monsoon showers and soft furnishings using exquisite woollen fabrics from Abraham Moon & Sons.
We are dedicated to ensuring that we continually improve on the quality of not only our product, but also the service to our valued guests.
This year Beckside was nominated for 'Walkers Pub of the Year.' by readers of The Great Outdoors Magazine, to have been nominated for such an award really did make us feel that all the hard work (and none existent holidays) are starting to pay off.
We thought now was a significant time to capture the work that we have done over the past few years, but wondered how best to showcase it, then I came across Adam and Chris Reid, videographers from Carlisle. They worked with us over the past couple of months to create a promotional video that fitted our brand perfectly. Thank you, Adam and Chris, for your professionalism, dedication, and expertise. We look forward to working with you again in the future.
